Women on Mission (WOM) is an exciting way for women of all ages to become involved in our church and in our community. If you are interested in feeding the homeless, encouraging pregnant women and teens in crisis, or giving transients and truckers traveling through our area a hot meal, WOM is the place for you. WOM is also involved in many other projects throughout the year, offering women several different ways to reach out to others. We hold an open invitation to both church members and visitors to attend our monthly meetings and find out first-hand all that WOM has to offer. Come find out how great it feels to share your blessings with others!
Mission Statement:
To enrich lives by involving the women of the church in mission efforts and reaching out to those in need both in our community and around the world.
Ongoing Projects:
WOM Feeds the Homeless: Each month, WOM delivers a home-cooked meal to The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter in Cartersville. Individual dishes are collected outside the Fellowship Hall at church on the 4 th Friday of the month at 5:00pm, and then delivered to the shelter. If you are interested in participating, please bring your covered dish with enough to feed about 20 people to the church grounds. For more information about The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter or other ways to help, please visit www.goodneighborshelter.org.
Truck Stop Ministry: WOM prepares bagged meals for truckers and transients traveling through the Cartersville area. These meals are delivered to at a local truck stop off of Interstate 75 at Exit #293 (Cassville-White), where a ministry is also provided. Services are held on-site on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. The bagged meal includes one microwaveable dish such as spaghetti or soup, a snack cake or pudding, a boxed drink, and a bible verse. Plastic silverware & napkin sets are also needed. If you are interested in contributing any of these items, please drop them off in the box marked “Truck Stop Ministry” in the Fellowship Hall.
Pregnancy Crisis Intervention: WOM collects baby bottles, diapers, baby clothes, and personal care items for pregnant women and teens in crisis and delivers them to the Bartow County Women’s Resource Center each year. The center encourages pregnant women in distress to keep their babies, and provides resources for assistance. WOM also provides baby bottles once a year to church families and in Sunday School classrooms to fill with spare change. All funds collected are donated to the center. The Bartow County Women’s Resource Center is located at 20 Douglas Street in Cartersville, and their phone number is (770) 382-7224.
Ghana Bandage Project: Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu, Ghana , West Africa, plays an important role in meeting the medical and spiritual needs of Northern Ghana. By providing quality medical care to this low income group, Baptist Medical Centre is a living example of the caring and compassion exemplified by Jesus Christ. To continue, the hospital needs support beyond what is available locally and through its parent organization, the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The centre is asking for our help in donating both unused envelopes, which are used to dispense prescriptions, and sheets, which can be cut into 3” strips and rolled into bandages. The children and youth at Rowland Springs Baptist Church are also involved in converting donated sheets, which can be any color or pattern, into bandages for this project. For more information about the Ghana Bandage Project, please visit www.failefoundation.org or www.tabernaclebaptist.org/ghana.htm.
Annie Armstrong Easter Offering: The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering honors the life and work of 5,000 North American Mission Board missionaries serving throughout the United States, Canada, and their territories. Through gifts, these missions personnel are enabled to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Because every dollar given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goes directly to support missionaries and their ministries, Southern Baptists are confident offering gifts are an investment in eternity. WOM hosts a breakfast every Easter after the sunrise service in return for donations to support this cause. Operation Christmas Child: Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love.
